Space Bar Rules
Forum Rules & Community Values
I sincerely hope that I won't have to do much moderation, and I'd like to do as little as possible. To assist me in this endeavor, adhere to the following rules.
1. Be kind. Be respectful. Be honest.
Speak with sincerity and mutual respect. I don't expect everyone to always be happy, but if you're angry and there's any risk of it affecting others, step away for a bit. This place is a sanctuary. Critique ideas, not people, and keep the critique constructive.
2. No hate. No harassment. No bigotry.
This includes racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, targeted personal attacks, continuing a behavior after someone asks you to stop, and - in general - anything that discriminates against groups of people.
3. No posting anything illegal.
I shouldn't have to explain this. If in doubt, keep it out. Posting something illegal is grounds for an immediate ban without a warning.
4. No NSFW content.
This is not the space for it. We may be at the edge of civilized space, but we're still within civilized space. This is not just limited to pornography but also includes gore, death videos, and anything else similar. Discussion in text is okay, but mark the thread title (NSFW) or add a content warning, and don't do shock content.
5. No politics.
Some things - rights and such - should never have been made political. For everything else, leave it at the door. It's not about pretending problems don't exist - it's about protecting this space from noise. Light references are fine, if the point isn't political discussion. Anything intentionally divisive, baiting, upsetting, or inflammatory will not be tolerated.
6. Respect the Space Bar.
Don't spam. Don't derail. If you're posting a project you're working on, that's awesome! But don't come here just to advertise. Spamming is multiple posts in a thread in rapid succession or posts without any content - a smilie or something of the sort. Show the craft behind your work. Drive-by-link-drops will be removed.
7. Respect privacy and ownership.
If someone posts something they created here, assume that it's not yours to copy and post elsewhere unless they explicitly say otherwise. Ask for permission! If they decline, move on. Don’t repost people’s words, art, or personal stories outside the forum without permission.
8. We do moderate. We just prefer not to.
For some things, you will be given a warning followed by a timeout, and then a ban - but don't take this proposed sequence of events as a guarantee. Your sentence is determined entirely by the mods that happen to be online. Don't take the risk. Their word is law and is not to be appealed, or discussed publicly. PM an admin or another mod if you think someone's moderation is amiss.
Don't piss off the moderators.
But above all... have fun!
